There are some key differences between playing European Blackjack and American Blackjack. Below is a recap of European Blackjack:
Number of Card Decks: 2 (Note that before any cards are ever dealt, the entire deck is shuffled when playing the online version of European Blackjack).
Splitting Rules: You can only ever split a hand once, if you do, you will be playing with the maximum number of hands permitted, which is two.
If you have split Aces, you can be dealt multiple cards to each Ace; however, the same standard practice of American Blackjack applies, if a ten-valued card dealt to a split ace counts as a 21 hand, and not a Blackjack hand.
You cannot split ten-valued cards that are not alike; for example Two Kings can be split but a Jack and a Ten cannot.
Doubling Down Rules: You are only allowed to Double Down on hands that total 9, 10 or 11.
Dealer Play Rules: The Dealer must stand on all 17 hands, and must draw on 16 or lower.
Payout: A Blackjack hand pays 3 to 2, a winning Insurance bet pays 2 to 1.
House Edge: The house edge for a European Blackjack game is 0.42%.
