Daydreaming of a leisurely retirement on an island in the Mediterranean? Your plans had better not involve playing cards for money.
Late on Monday, police in Cyprus’ southern port of Limassol responded to complaints of disturbance caused by an apparently raucous card game. The culprits? Nearly two dozen women, with an average age of 80, playing poker and gin rummy.
The arrivals and departures of the dastardly dames had disturbed neighbors enough to call in complaints. With land-based gambling illegal in Cyprus, police had no choice but to detain the elderly women.
As yet, there has been no word if there is any connection to some sort of senior mafia or other nefarious elderly crime syndicate.
