250 new slot machines rang in the opening day of Sands Casino Bethlehem’s major expansion, as well as celebrating the casino’s six month anniversary.
In addition to the expanded gaming, the site now features a new lounge named “Infusion”, and two new restaurants: celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse’s “Burgers and More” and iconic New York City eatery Carnegie Deli.
Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan asserts that the restaurants continue to elevate the site above mere gambling. “Both of those are a source of pride for the city,” he said. “We always said we wanted this to be more than a slots parlor. This is going to be another step toward that ultimate goal.”
Along with the construction and planning, the new staff adds jobs to an area recently and historically hit hard by economic downturns. Work on the casino’s 300-room hotel has been slowed due to the economic environment.
