Launched to emulate the increasingly popular World Poker Tour which takes place in the United States, the European Poker Tour was founded by John Duthie. After establishing a partnership with online giant PokerStars, the EPT began seeing action in 2004, traveling to a variety or European poker hot spots.
The traveling tournament series has visited such places as London, France, Denmark, Spain, Ireland, Germany, Russia, Portugal and Monte Carlo. The EPT’s championship takes place in the tour’s final stop each year and it offers one of the biggest prize pools on the poker calendar.
Duthie is the CEO and Executive Producer of the EPT and Thomas Kremser is the European Poker Tour’s Tournament Director. Both Duthie and Kremser have impeccable poker reputations. Duthie is considered a top-notch poker pro himself, having won the first Ladbrokes Poker Million on live television in 2000, and having made two World Series of Poker final tables in 2005 and 2009, while Kremser is the CEO of the International Poker Federation and the tournament director for the popular TV poker program Late Night Poker.
