The 2009 edition of the European Poker tour is set to kick off this August with the traveling tournament’s debut in Moscow. The tour’s first-ever stop in the heartland of Russia, offers poker glasnost to players from August 18-23.
According to EPT founder John Duthie, “Russia has enormous potential, where many people have been brought up playing games like chess. It is a natural transition to poker, evident by the phenomenal success of Russian players on the worldwide stage,” said Duthie in a recent interview with PokerNewsDaily.com
The EPT also makes its debut in Portugal this year when the tour stops at Vilamoura in November (17-22). In addition to this luxurious tournament destination, the EPT also travels to Barcelona (Sept. 4-9), London (1-7), Poland (Oct. 20-25), Prague (Dec. 1-6) and the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas (Jan. 4-14).
According to Duthie, the Pokerstars-sponsored touranment series continues to grow at a rapid clip. This was one of the reasons why they decided to ex[pand to Portugal. “Portugal has always been one of my favorite destinations in Europe and I am delighted that we are finally going to be holding an event there. This will be a wonderful opportunity for players to take in the sights of Vilamoura and maybe get a few rounds of golf in,” said Duthie.
