This Lebanese poker star took the world by storm after winning the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event. For defeating the field Hachem earned $7.5 million and a Main Event gold champions bracelet.
Born in Lebanon 1966, Hachem and his family moved to Australia in 1972 and the haven’t looked back since. Happily residing in Melbourne, Hachem pursued a career as a chiropractor. After developing a condition that forced him to quit doing chiropractic work, Hachem took different jobs while developing his game. He soon began playing semi-professionally in Melbourne and playing frequently on PokerStars.
According to Hachem’s Web site, he funded his way to winning the title by finishing tenth in a tournament prior to the WSOP (he won $28,000). “With the money in my pocket and a new confidence, I peeled off $10,000 and bought into the 2005 WSOP main event,” said Hachem.
Having proving his win was no fluke with a number of strong showings, Hachem has earned over $10.7 million over the course of his career and he is first on Australia’s All-Time Money List. In addition to winning a WSOP bracelet, Hachem won the WPT Doyle Brunson North American Poker Classic in 2006. That same year he finished second in the WSOP $2,500 Short-handed No Limit Hold’em event.
