As “Britain’s Largest” home to online gambling, Betfair entered the world of online poker in 2005 to try and add to its gaming empire. A few years later, they’ve built an impressive poker site with several good things in its favor…but in an increasingly crowded and sophisticated field, can they compete with the online poker leaders?

Gameplay 6/10
The client itself is easy on the eyes, with a big play area and sleek steel-blue colors. The interface is nice with a number of useful toggles right at the player’s finger tips. There are quite a few option buttons but they don’t represent a distraction in normal gameplay.
Aiming straight for the majority crowd, Betfair concentrates on the major poker variants (Hold ‘Em and Omaha). As well, Betfair Poker also includes multiplayer blackjack, which is a nice addition and one that many poker sites and online casinos could stand to emulate.
With guaranteed tournaments generally in the mid-to-low thousands and maxing out in five-figures, Betfair’s tournament offerings are comparable to the majority of decent poker sites. ‘Sit-and-go’ and multi-table tournaments definitely spice up the options – and Betfair Poker offers satellites tournaments for WSOP, WSOPE, EPT and Aussie Millions — so a player could conceivably take his game all the way to the top.
Promotions 6.5/10
Betfair offers up to $500 to new players, based on the amount of Betfair points (which are generated by playing poker, but also through sportsbetting or casino games — including the “Exchange”). A “Boost Your Bankroll” freeroll tournament gives the top daily finishers a shot at a weekly $2000 Final.

A solid selection of leaderboard and series promotions add to the prize possibilities, so there’s no reason a skilled player can’t pull in a nice haul on a regular basis…and reaching those top positions may be a bit easier than on some of the top-ranked poker sites that tend to be more crowded with sharks.
Customer Service 9/10
Customer Service at Betfair benefits from their long history in facilitating sports wagers. E-mail support is guaranteed a 4-hour response time, with individual addresses to better handle specific concerns. Live chat and phone support is available (with Mandarin and Cantonese support as well) with 24/7 betting assistance but slightly more limited helpdesk hours. Unless you’re from Canada, the telephone numbers are not toll-free — international players should try chat and e-mail first unless they have money to burn.
Their website and transactions are well-tested. Players should find no problems making deposits or withdrawing their winnings. The designers have done a good job of providing informative tutorials and FAQs explaining almost every aspect of their service. For players who do decide to place a deposit with Betfair, be sure to check out their other services including betting on sporting events, casino games, and bingo.

Wrap up
As it stands, Betfair’s main attraction is still the excellent sports booking and exchange bets. Poker service is on the level of the casino games: impressive enough for most people. As well as poker players, social blackjack players who regularly dabble in Hold’em poker could certainly find a good fit at Betfair, and regular users of Betfair’s other services will find both games reason enough not to look elsewhere.
