Quick history: Williams released “Reel ‘em In” mechanical slot machine way back when.
Nothing really special, just a solid 3-reel single-line mechanical slots. Apart from the fishing motif, it was not exactly unique. However, when IGT sued Williams and forced them to stop using “reel-spinning” designs, the company decided to explore the possibilities of video slots. Video slots were a very new idea at the time — nobody had quite figured out how to make it work. Luckily, Williams had a number of people from the video game industry (Williams owned Midway, who brought us Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Mortal Kombat, among many others). Characters. Animations. Bonus screens. Nobody had put those in a slot machine before. And it paid off. Reel ‘em In made slots history; people couldn’t play it enough. Obviously, some of these are going to look more like Reel ‘em In than others. Aside from Microgaming, no company is really putting out a slots game with a sport fishing theme — which, when you think about it, is rather odd considering Reel ‘em In’s popularity and place in slots history.
