  • Chemin-de-fer – The European Baccarat variation where one player plays the bank, deals all the cards, and takes all the bets. This is very popular in European casinos, but not as popular online.

  • Loss bet – A bet in opposition to the bank.
  • Mini-baccarat – A variation of Baccarat in which a smaller table than usual is used, with less seats, and has one dealer, instead of two dealers and a caller.
  • Muck – The deck of cards used in baccarat.
  • Natural – When the two cards total to 8 or 9.  This stops play. A 9 is the best hand in baccarat.
  • La Petite – A card total of 8. Also called a natural.
  • Shooter – A nickname for the bank.
  • Standoff – When the banker and the player tie.
  • Tie Bet – To bet on a tie between the player and the dealer.

While some of the lingo used in baccarat can at first seem daunting, on closer inspection it is actually quite simple.
