  • Banker Bet – Any bet made on the banker to win.
  • Player Bet – Any bet made on the player to win.
  • Banco – This is baccarat’s version of an “all-in” bet. The term for a player betting all their money. It is also the Italian word for bank.

  • Coup – One round of Baccarat.
  • Croupier – The dealer.
  • Chemin-de-fer – The European Baccarat variation where one player plays the bank, deals all the cards, and takes all the bets. This is very popular in European casinos, but not as popular online.
  • Face Cards – Any Jack, Queen or King in Baccarat.
  • House Edge – The house edge is how likely the house is to win over a player. In baccarat, House Edge refers to the rake on all bank bets, slightly lessening the value of the best from the actual odds of winning.
  • Ladderman – The staff member who runs the baccarat game.
  • Le Grande – The best hand in Baccarat, a 9. More commonly called a natural.
  • Loss bet – A bet in opposition to the bank.
  • Mini-baccarat – A variation of Baccarat in which a smaller table than usual is used, with less seats, and has one dealer, instead of two dealers and a caller.
  • Muck – The deck of cards used in baccarat.
  • Natural – When the two cards total to 8 or 9.  This stops play. A 9 is the best hand in baccarat.
  • La Petite – A card total of 8. Also called a natural.
  • Shooter – A nickname for the bank.
  • Standoff – When the banker and the player tie.
  • Tie Bet – To bet on a tie between the player and the dealer.

While some of the lingo used in baccarat can at first seem daunting, on closer inspection it is actually quite simple.
